Recipe: Hummus-Guacamole — Why Choose Between Dips?

Did everyone have a good Super Bowl weekend? I’m not the biggest natural football fan myself. And since Deepak’s beloved Patriots were out of contention, he wasn’t too invested in the game either. I did, however, come up with a Super Bowl of cruciferous vegetables, paired nicely with a homemade guacamole-hummus combo. You can duplicate it too with the following ingredients:

1 serrano pepper
1 avocado
1 15-oz. can chickpeas (dump most of the liquid out)
2 tsp salt
crack of pepper
shake of red pepper flakes (to your taste)
juice from 1 lemon
juice from small wedge of lime
healthy handful chopped cilantro
1 tbs sesame seeds
3 cloves garlic
1/4 c chopped red onion

As you may guess, we like things 1) salty, 2) garlic-y, 3) low oil and 4) SPICY. Your tastes -- and thus exclusion and/or modulation of the volume of given ingredients -- may vary.

I made ours in a Vitamix, where you turn the knob to the “Frozen Desserts” pre-set and whip away.
